At the Super Bowl in the USA on 13 February, old Girl Parris Goebel was the choreographer for Rihanna's halftime show. Seven of the dancers were New Zealanders who trained at her dance studio called the Palace in Penrose. Her sister Kendal Collins runs the Sisters United programme with support from her 2 sisters. AGGS has been part of the programme since it was established 6 years ago. This year they will have 2 Year 9 groups( 15-20 students in each) called the Crown Yourself Programme, it is mentored by 8 Year 12/13 students who will be trained at a weekend camp next month and be members of the Young Queens Programme. Last year Luisa Ma'asi, one of our students was chosen for the Sisters United top Mentor Award from over 15 schools which run their programme. You might like to watch the documentary about Parris ``Daughters of the migration" by the Coconet tv. Kendal is also interviewed and at the end there is a piece on Sisters United with AGGS girls featured. Parris has promised she will come into school and talk to our students but it is a question of when as she spends a lot of time in LA and only visits family occasionally. |
