Anna Smaill is an old girl of AGGS and a poet and novelist. Her first poetry collection, The Violinist in Spring, was published in 2006. Her first novel, The Chimes, was published in 2015 and was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize. Both The Violonist and The Chimes hint at her first love, for years she studied the violin with the aim of becoming a professional musician. Her latest book "Bird Life" published in 2023 explores the gaps between the reality we build for ourselves and who we really are and is set in Tokyo where she spent two years teaching English. She holds MAs in English Literature and Creative Writing and undertook her PhD on contemporary US poets at University College London. |
