We were delighted to welcome back two of our 'old girls' to AGGS to be honoured at our 2024 Founding Day Assembly. Each year since 1992, we have recognised the achievements and contributions to society of our former students at a special assembly. This year our two award recipients were her Honour Judge Tania Sharkey, the first Tongan family court judge in New Zealand and Environmental Scientist, Professor Sally Gaw, from Canterbury University. Sadly, due to Covid Professor Gaw could not be with us in person but spoke to our students online about her work as an Environmental Scientist and how rewarding a career in the Sciences could be. Judge Sharkey was inspirational in her address, explaining that her path to where she is today was not always an easy one and encouraging the students to never give up on pursuing their passions and dreams. In addition to the awards to our alumni, four of our current students from Years 11, 12, 13 and Nga Tumunako o Kahurangi, chosen by their Deans also received awards of $500 each from the Old Girls' Association. |
